Karbonkelberg Tourism Sentinel Full Moon & Sunset Hike
What to expect
Spend time with this family in the Karbonkelberg Mountains of The Sentinel Peak, jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean at the south western section of Hout Bay among the traditional fisher community of this globally diverse seaside suburb of Cape Town.
Join them on a monthly Sunset and Full Moon hike, on Karbonkelberg Peak/The Sentinel, meet at Fish on The Rocks car park at 5pm leaving promptly in order to get the sunset on time.
Bring along:
- Head lamp, the hike back will not be completely lit by the moon when returning
- Wear comfortable walking/hiking boots/shoes
- Fleece/ Windbreaker/ Warm Jacket as it does get cold when the sun sets or the wind picks up right off the Atlantic Ocean
- Backpack to carry any extras
- 1 litre of fresh cool water (ensure it’s in waterproof bags if in your backpack)
- A flask of something warm to drink as it tends to get cold once the sun sets (ensure it’s in waterproof bags if in your backpack)
- Snack pack (sandwich, trail mix, nuts, biltong, energy jellies or whatever else you would like that’s easy to eat) please ensure no waste is left behind
- Insect repellent or you could wear a long pant
- Extra cash in case you need to buy something at the shop before heading up or tip the guide/s [We have card facilities available should you not wish to bring cash for tips]
There are no loo facilities or shops once we go into the mountain so bring with all that you need and make sure to have gone to the toilet before arriving.
NB: The Hiking Tour is on specific days based on the Lunar Calendar, always check their social media for updates of when these hikes are available.

Brent Thomas and his wife Donita a local traditional herbalist will take you on a hike, walking the footsteps of their forefathers and learning about the meaning of the sun and nature and how they live. This is their way of life as a family so you will likely get to meet them all
