Nonkululeko Charters (recently renamed Yacoob Yachts), meaning Freedom Charters, established in 1995 a year after South Africa’s first democratic election is one of the first and only black owned yacht charter businesses trading in the heart of South Africa’s top tourist destination, the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town. We provide the ultimate sailing and cruising experience. A cruise on one of our vessels, taking in Cape Town’s breath taking coastline, is a must do activity. We pride ourselves on offering vessels that meet international standards, serviced by highly qualified and friendly crew.
We are one of the largest boat operators in the Waterfront which affords us the luxury of offering our clients flexibility in terms of capacity and themes, with a fleet of 5 vessels to suit all moods, from romance to adventure catering to the thrill seeker and the family alike. Our vessels are built and maintained to international standards and cater to all ages catering to groups between 10 and 65 pax per trip. Each vessel has its own individual feel:
– Our 2 sleek and sedate catamarans, the Tigresse and the Ameera, are ideally suited to romantic sunset cruises accompanied by local sparkling wines taking in views of our beautiful coastline.
– The Jolly Roger, the only pirate boat in South Africa offers the young at heart an authentic adventure-filled experience and is particularly popular as a party boat for themed year-end functions, bachelor and bachelorettes and for families with young children.
We have 22 years of experience and our boats are maintained to meet the exacting standards set by the South African Maritime Safety Authority. On-board facilities include a cash bar, restrooms, blankets for chillier evenings and pull-down covers in the event of inclement weather. We are often asked about what happens in the event of really wet or windy weather, we will close operations if conditions at sea are deemed unsafe and offer refunds in full where postponement to a more suitable time is not possible.
We operate throughout the year offering daily scheduled cruises of up to 90 minutes, including the popular sunset cruise which is accompanied by complimentary local sparkling wine on our catamarans and rum punch on the Jolly Roger. We offer customised rates for group bookings with special rates for low-season trading periods and film shoots. For those who want to make use of our vessels exclusively, we are able to tailor-make packages that include catering and a full bar and the proximity to more than 70 restaurants in the Waterfront means that dinner cruise packages are very popular.
A cruise on one of our vessels, taking in Cape Town’s breath-taking coastline, viewing a myriad of marine life including whales and dolphins in season, the opportunity to take photographs of Cape Town’s icon from a different perspective and a stopover at the world-famous Clifton beach makes this an essential addition to any itinerary when visiting Cape Town.
On this experience you will get to meet one of the designers and possibly of the talented and creative people who create and bring you amazing local fashion at great prices.

Brent Thomas and his family have carried on some of their traditional way of life by living off and in nature. As a family they have regular walks in the mountain and on the beach and within season and with their permits they would forage and collect what they need as part of their lifestyle. Passed on through the generations of the indigenous people as their forefathers, you get to have a taste and live a bit in the past.
