Meet Feedback—a riotous, surreal, and surprisingly poignant murder mystery reimagined by South African theatre legend Andrew Buckland. Known for his award-winning physical theatre style and sharp satire, Buckland transforms this eccentric tale into a vibrant feast of humour, movement, and absurdity.

Directed and written by Buckland, the production unfolds with outrageous flair: two feuding brothers, a detective investigating a crime, and a cast of flying cheeses (and other foodstuffs!) collide in a storyline that skewers themes of food consciousness, globalisation, and human excess. Ultimately, it reveals both our capacity for greed and our capacity for altruism.

Andrew Frederick Buckland (born 1954) is a foundational figure in South African theatre—an award-winning playwright, performer, academic, and mime artist. His signature style combines physical clowning, poetic imagery, and socially incisive storytelling.

Feedback premiered in 1995 to acclaim, winning awards at festivals—including the Scotsman Fringe Award in Edinburgh. Buckland’s works, such as The Ugly Noo Noo (1989) and Laugh the Buffalo (2013), highlight his talent for blending absurd humour with deeper human insight.

This edition of Feedback is performed by Baxter’s dynamic Fires Burning Company, featuring talented actors recently seen in acclaimed productions like La Ronde, Metamorphoses, Neighbourhood, and Othello. The ensemble includes Carlo Daniels, Awethu Hleli, Nolufefe Ntshuntshe, and Lyle October—all guided by acclaimed assistant director Roshina Ratnam (noted for Life & Times of Michael K, Hamlet).
